Old Turtle

Bibliography: Wood, D., & Chee, C. (1992). Old Turtle. Duluth, MN: Pfeifer-Hamilton

Annotation: This story is about a time period a long time ago when there was an argument among the animals and wildlife about God. All of the animals and wild life like wind, water, rocks and mountains gave their opinion about what God is. The argument grew louder until the old turtle yelled STOP! Old turtle combined all of the arguments form all forms of live and repeated them. Old turtle had never spoke so much. Old turtle proceeded to say that new beings would come and would be reminders of God. They will come in many colors, shapes, and sizes. They will have different faces and ways of speaking. And so the people came. The people however forgot their message of love and began to argue of who knew God, what was God and where God was. The people would abuse their powers and destroy wild life. They had forgotten until a voice told them about God and they found God in one another and in the beauty of the earth. The old turtle smiled.

Rate/Response: 10 This book is very powerful and very moving. It is difficult to picture it as a children’s book. I really enjoyed the message from this book.

Question: It would be very difficult to read this book in a public setting however in the proper setting I would ask “Is God within us? and How do you think God and the animals feel in what we are doing to the earth?”
