Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed

Bibliography: Willems, M. (2009). Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed. New York, NY; Hyperion Books for Children.

Brief Annotation: Mole rats are usually naked except for Wilbur. He liked to wear clothes everywhere he went. His friends disagree that it is appropriate for mole rats to be wearing clothes. They try many things to get Wilbur to go around naked, with no success until Grand-pah mole rat makes a proclamation that all mole rats can go around in clothes if they feel like it.

Genre: Picturebook, Animal Fiction

Grade Level: K-2nd grade

Readers who will like this: Children who are learning about diversity in people and in creatures. Children who are looking for a new Mo Willems book to read.

Response/Rating: I would give this book a 3 for its humor and the great opportunities it expresses for children readers to be ok with being different than other people they know because they are.

Question to ask before a read-aloud: Have you ever worn something that someone doesn't like because you have never worn it before?
