The Hero and the Minotaur, The Fantastic Adventures of Theseus

Bibliographic Information: Byrd, R. (2005). The Hero and the Minotaur, The Fantastic Adventures of Theseus. Illus. Robert Byrd. New York, NY: Dutton Children's Books.

Brief Annotation: In this the Greek Myth of Theseus, son of King Aegeus and Princess Aethra. Theseus is a courageous and valiant hero who, among his man conquests, defeats the minotaur--half man, half bull!
Genre: Myth
Grade Level: K-5
Readers who will like this: Readers who enjoy tales of heros and adventures will enjoy this myth.
Response/Rating (1-4): I rate this book a 4! The illustrations are very detailed, and give this story so much more to look at. The adventures of Theseus are far-fetched and outrageous but highly entertaining!
One question you would ask before a read aloud: If you were the hero in this story, how would you outsmart the beast?
