Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed

Bibliographic Information: Willems, M. (2009). Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed. New York, NY: Hyperion Books For Children.

Brief Annotation: Mole Rats are both mole and rat and they do not wear clothes. There is one mole rat that is unlike the others because he enjoys wearing clothes. When all the other mole rats make fun of his decisions asks why it’s weird to wear clothes. After the elder mole rat makes his proclamation about clothes all the other mole rats follow suit.

Genre: Fiction, Picture book

Grade Level: prek-2

Readers who will like this: Children who ask why a lot; Children who are different then their peers; Children who enjoy Mo Willems books.

Response/Rating: 3; the message I got from this book was that even if you are not like others, that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong with you. There is also an emphasis on the acceptance of asking questions. As always Mo Willems book have a sarcastic humor to them that I find very enjoyable.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: Why do you wear socks?
