The Great, Smelly, Slobbery, Small-Tooth Dog

Bibliographic Information: MacDonald, M. (2007). The Great, Smell, Slobbery, Small-Tooth Dog. Julie Paschkis. Atlanta, Georgia: August House Publishers.
Brief Annotation: This is a folktale from Great Britian that follows the same story line as Beauty and the Beast except the Beast in this story is a great, smelly, slobbery, small-toothed dog. The girl starts to really like the dog, and when she tells him that he turns into a prince and they get married.
Genre: Folktale
Grade Level: 1-3
Readers who will like this: Readers who like fractured fairytales, or a different take on a classic fairytale.
Response/Rating (1-4): 2 this was an interesting take to the Beauty and the Beast tale. It carried the same moral: not to judge a book by it's cover, because everyone has beautiful parts about them on the inside.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: Do you like the story Beauty and the Beast?
