The Lion & The Mouse

Bibliographic Information: Pinkney, J. (2009). The Lion & The Mouse. New York, NY: Little, Brown and Company: Books for Young Readers.

Brief Annotation: This wordless picture book tells the story of the lion and the mouse. One day, as a mouse is running away from a bird, he finds himself on the back of a lion. Instead of killing him, the lion lets him go, and he runs back to his family. Later on the lion finds himself in some trouble and is stuck in a hunters trap. Who is the one that comes to save the day? Mouse. This story teaches the lesson of kindness to all.

Genre: Wordless picture book, Folklore, Fiction

Grade Level: All

Readers who will like this: Anyone who has heard the story of the lion and the mouse; People with wild imaginations; Individuals who need a reminder on what it is to be kind

Response/Rating: 4; this book details the story that I remember from my own childhood. I have always seen a bit of karma being in this book, as the lion lets the mouse go-the mouse is then able to help the lion. This book just goes to prove the importance on the idea that we all affect one another.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: What is something nice you have done for someone? Did it affect you at all later in time?
