Falling Up

Bibliographic Information: Silverstein, S. (1996). Falling Up. New York, NY: HarperCollins.

Brief Annotation: This book is filled with short poems and one-of-a-kind sketches. Each poem tells its own short story with the meaning usually lying deeper than the surface. The pictures are, at times, just as witty as the writing!

Genre: Poetry, Fiction, Picture book

Grade Level: 1-6

Readers who will like this: Children who enjoy poems; Children whose imaginations are large; Children who like other poems by Shel Silverstein.

Response/Rating 3: Some of the poems in this book are on the dark side, and probably not the best for children to be reading. This book is, however, filled with tongue twisting poems that tell everyday occurrences from a different view. I especially enjoyed the back pastedown and the last quirky thing Silberstein writes!
