JoJo's Flying Side Kick

Bibliographic Information: Pinkney, B. (1995). JoJo's Flying Side Kick. New York, New York: Simon & Schuster.

Annotation: This book is about a young girl preparing for her Tae Kwon Do yellow belt but along with her fear of not passing the test JoJo fears that the tree in her front yardwill slip into her window like a bandit, her friends and family offer advice but JoJo discovers she must do things on her own.

Grades: k-2

Genre: Fiction. Picture Book.

Who would read this book: Children that like Tae Kwon Do, Children that are caught in a dilemma and are unsure how to solve it. Young readers looking for an active and unique story.

Rating/ Response: 2 of 4-- I would have really enjoyed this book if it was just based around the Tae Kwon Do but I didn't understand the connection to the tree, it made the book seem scattered and unrelateable to the rest of the story.

Question: Have you ever been nervous or scared of something?
