The baby sister

Bibliography: Depaola, T. (1996). The Baby Sister. New York, NY: Penguin Putnam Books for Young Readers.
Annotation: Tommy's mother is expecting a baby and Tommy is very excited! He wants a baby sister with a red ribbon in her hair. While mom and dad are in the hospital, Tommy's Nana Fall-River comes to stay with him. They don't get along at first, until the baby is born and all is well.
Genre: Picturebook
Grade level: K-4
Readers who will like this: Any child who is about to become a big brother/sister. It is a fun warm and loving book that children will enjoy!
Response/Rating: I would give this book a 4 because the illustrations are fantastic, and the mood of the story is very warm and inspiring. I think it is a great book for young readers.
One question to ask before a read-aloud: How many of you have had to stay with a family member or some other babysitter while your mom and dad were away? How did you feel and was the babysitter nice to you?
