The House in the Night

Bibliography: Swanson, S. M., & Krommes, B. (2008). The house in the night. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company.

Annotation: This book is about a girl that gets the key to the house from her mother. The light in the house is on and there is a book on the bed. The girl reads the book about a bird and the night moon with the sun. After the story the light remains in her room and her mother comes home and her daughter gives back the key for the home. The moon light fills the bedroom and the home.

Genre: Fiction

Grade: K-2

Readers: Beginner readers would love this book because it is simple. Readers that like more of a picture book aspect and few words.

Rate/Response: 6, I did not care much for this book even though it was a Caldecott winner in 2009. I loved the illustrations however I felt the story was lacking a lot especially for a children’s book. I just wish that there was a little more story to the book. I feel it is a decent book for a beginner reader but nothing more.

Question: Where do you see light? Is there light from the moon? Is there light from the sun?
