Frederick

Lionni, L. (1967). Frederick. New York, New York: Dragonfly Books.

Brief Annotation: Frederick the mouse has to get ready for the upcoming winter that is coming with his family, but he does not seem into it. He would rather soak up the sun and what is left of the colors of the leaves and trees. When winter rolls around the mice run out of conversation and food and have nothing to do. It is up to Frederick and his preparations to cure the boredom in the den.

Genre: Animal Fantasy (Caldecott Honor Winner for the illustrations of this book)

Grade Level: K-2

Readers who will like this: Readers who are animal and even poetry lovers for the end of the book.

Response/Rating: 4; I have grown to love Leo Lionni's books for the wonderful illustrations he uses in each one. I thought the character of Frederick was adorable and enjoyed the read.

Question: What do you like to do inside on cold days so you are not bored?
