Bibliography: Polacco, P. (1998). The Keeping Quilt. New York, NY: Simon and Schuster books for Young Readers.
Annotation: This book tells the story of Patricia's Great-Gamma Anna coming to America, and adjusting to the new life while keeping her culture alive. Anna and several other women make a quilt that gets passed down through the family from generation to generation.
Genre: Historical Fiction
Grade Level: 3-5
Readers who will like this: Anyone who likes historical fiction and books about family artifacts being passed down, and can relate to that.
Response/Rating: I would give this book a 2 out of 4 because I am not too interested in historical fiction books, but I like the way that this book is arranged. It was a bit hard to follow with all the generations, but it was interesting to see the different ways that the quilt was used.
One question to ask before a read-aloud: Do you own anything that has been passed down in your family? What makes it special?
