Shrek!

Bibliography: Steig, W. (1990). Shrek!. New York, NY: Square Fish

Annotation: Shrek is a giant, ugly, flame-spitting ogar determined to make his way to a princess, which a witch tells him (in his fortune) he can marry. Shrek doesn't let anyone stop him from making his way to this princess, and if they do, he spits flames at them. Along the way, Shrek encounters a donkey who takes him to the castle where he marries the ugly princess.

Genre: Fantasy

Grade Level: Kindergarten through 2nd grade

Readers who will like this: Anyone who likes books based on unreal creatures and loves adventures!

Response/Rating: I would give this book a 3 out of 4 because it is a great book that demonstrates determination in a character, which I think children can learn a lot from. I also love the illustrations!

One question you would ask before a read-aloud: Has there ever been a time that you wanted something and wouldn't stop till you got it?
