Shrek!

Steig, W. (1990). Shrek!. New York: Farrar, Straus, and Giroux.

Annotation: Shrek is an ugly creature who leaves his parents home to live on his own. As he sets out he meets a witch who tells him his fortune. Then he meets a donkey who leads him to a castle where he meets a princess who is uglier than he is!

Genre: Fantasy

Grade Level: K-4

Readers who will like this: Children who like fantasy and talking animal stories. Children who feel different.

Rating: 4; I really liked this book. It was interesting to hear the original story after seeing the movie many times. This story sends a good message, just because you are different does not mean you are alone.

Questions: Have you ever felt different?
