Up North at the Cabin

Bibliography: Chall, M. W., & Johnson, S. (1992). Up north at the cabin. New York: Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Books.

Annotation: This book is a poetry book about a girl going up north to her cabin in Minnesota. She remembers the way up to the cabin. She then fishes with her grandpa. At night her grandma serves the fresh fish that her and her grandpa caught that day. They eat outside to watch the loons and the sun go down. The next day she goes swimming in the great big lake. She then takes the cannon out with her grandpa on the river. On their journey they see a huge moose. The next day she goes water skiing across the lake with her uncle Roy. She is brave and ventures into the woods for a hike and listens to her heart. When it is time to go she looks at everything one last time and remembers what the cabin is like in the winter.

Genre: Non-Fiction

Grade: K-3

Readers: Readers that enjoy poetry and adventure will love this book. Readers that also love stories about cabins and up north will also enjoy this book.

Rate/Response: 10 I loved this book. The poetry is written beautifully. The illustration is also wonderful within the book as well.

Question: Does anyone have a cabin? Does anyone go up north?
