David Goes to School

Bibliography: Shannon, D. (1999). David goes to school. New York: Blue Sky Press

Annotation: This book is about a young boy who goes to school and is always getting himself into trouble. He is tardy, chews gum, and never sits down. The teacher is always reminding him to pay attention, to raise his hand, and to keep his hands to himself. In the cafeteria David is told to wait his turn and in the library he is constantly being told to shhh. One day David decides to draw all over his desk. He then has to stay after and clean all of the desks. Then David finally receives a good job and a gold star.

Genre: Picture book, Fiction

Grade: Pre K -1st

Readers: Readers just learning how to read will enjoy this book. Readers that are just starting out in school will also enjoy this book.

Rate/Response: 10 I loved this book. I feel it is a great book to begin the first day of school with. It is a good book to read before talking to students about the rules of the class.

Question: Do we have rules in school? What are some rules that we have?
