There Is a Bird on Your Head!

Willems, M. (2007). There Is a Bird on Your Head!. New York, NY: Hyperion Books for Children.

Brief Annotation: This book tells of another one of Gerald and Piggie’s adventures. In this story two birds decide to build a nest on Gerald’s head; he doesn’t like this situation one bit. Piggie suggests that he simply ask the birds to leave. Gerald does this and the birds leave; where do you think they will go?

Genre: Animal fantasy, picture book

Grade Level: PreK-3

Readers who will like this: Children who like the Elephant & Piggie series, animals, and Mo Willems books.

Response/Rating (1-4): 4; This book is adorable! I giggled so many times. I’m amazed by the situations that Mo Willems creates in his books. They are entertaining to all readers; adults and children alike.

One question you would ask before a read aloud: If someone were doing something that you didn’t like, how would you ask him or her to stop?
