Bibliography: McClintock, B. (1991). Animal Fables from Aesop. Illus. Barbara McClintock. Jaffery NH: David R. Godine Publisher.
Brief Annotation: This book is a series of Animal fables from Aesop that involve a fox, a wolf, bird dressed as a peacock and many other creatures. Through each tale, a lesson is learned whether it is the fox trying so hard to reach the berries high up in the tree unsuccessfully, or a crane reaching in a wolf's mouth to get a bone out that the wolf was choking on and getting no reward for it.
Genre: Fables
Grade Level: Pre-K-2nd grade
Readers who will like this: Children who are interested in animal fiction and learning important lessons of life.
Response/Rating: I would give this book a 3 because of the great illustrations of the characters that drew me into these fables. I also really enjoyed the important morals stated at the end of each fable that will help young children as they grow up.
Question to ask before a read aloud: How can you tell that a character is doing things that are make believe and not real things that animals can do?
