Brief Annotation: In this collection of fables, fairy tales and myths, the myth, Theseus and the Minotaur is told. Theseus wants to end his father's kingdoms tradition of sending seven youths and seven maidens to the labyrinth where the deadly creature, the minotaur, lived. Every year the sacrifices were sent and no one ever made it out of the labyrinth alive. Theseus, volunteers to go alone and kill the beast. With a little help he makes it out alive, but with a surprising twist at the end, leaves Theseus not as happy as he thought he would be.

Response/Rating (1-4): 4. This is a great myth. I love the twist at the end. It is bittersweet, and it reminds me of the Hunger Games series. This myth can be a little intense for young readers.
