A Sick Day for Amos McGee

Bibliography: Stead P. (2010). A Sick Day for Amos Mcgee. Illus. Erin Stead, New York, NY: Roaring Book Press.
Brief Annotation: Amos McGee is a man who works at the city zoo and plays chess with the elephant, runs races with the tortoise, sits quietly with a penguin, lends a handkerchief to a rhinoceros, and reads stories to an owl at sunset. One day, Amos wakes up feeling sick, and after lots of wondering why Amos isn't at the zoo, the animals travel to his house to keep him company. Amos and the animals go on with many of their usual activites as if it was any other day. A Sick Day for Amos McGee is a 2011 Caldecott Award winner for the books illustrations.
Genre: Animal Fiction, Picturebook
Grade Level: Kindergarten-2nd grade
Readers who will like this: Children who love books of animal fiction and who are learning to form friendships with other children.
Response/Rating: I would give this book a 4 because I love the animal characters doing the craziest thing like going to a mans house because he is sick. It is a very cute and heartwarming concept of this book and children can learn a lot about caring for others.
Question to ask before a read aloud: What can a friend do for you when you feel bad?
