Bibliographic Information: Pinkney, J. (2009). The Lion and the Mouse. New York, New York: Little, Brown Book for Young Readers.
Brief Annotation: The retelling of Aesop's fable, "The Lion and the Mouse," is done without words (except sound words) in this book. The small mouse intrudes on the large lion's sleep, but the lion lets the mouse go. Then when the lion is in trouble, the mouse goes and helps the lion.
Genre: Wordless Picture book
Grade Level: PreK-3
Readers who will like this: Readers who enjoy wordless picture books or fables.
Response/Rating (1-4): 3. This was a beautifully illustrated book, that said big things without saying any words at all. It would be fun to read to the class and make up a story line or dialogue.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: Have you ever helped someone who once helped you?
