Bibliographic Information (APA): Polacco, P. (1998). The Keeping Quilt. New York, NY: Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers.
Brief Annotation: Great-Gramma Anna was the first generation to come to America. Anna’s mother made a quilt from Anna’s old dress and babushka, Uncle Vladimir’s shirt, Aunt Havalah’s nightdress and an apron of Aunt Natasha’s. This quilt was used for many things like weddings and birthdays and was passed down 4 generations already with more to come!
Genre: Historical Fiction, Picture book
Grade Level: 2-4
Readers who will like this: Children who have family air looms that have been passed down from different generations.
Response/Rating (1-4): 2 out of 4. It gives a good picture of what a family air loom is and how it is passed down from generation to generation. I liked that the quilt was the only item in color on the pages.
One question you would ask before a read aloud: Is there an item in your family that has been passed down?
